How To Remodel Bathrooms Like An Expert

AUTHOR: Peter Unsworth
12.12.2009

To remodel bathrooms you have to first tear them down. You first begin by taking out the previous tile from all the walls. You then take out the vinyl floor. You will want to have an electric fan to keep the dust from building up and causing a health risk while you are working. To replace the tub with a shower stall you have to break apart the old tub and take it out in pieces. Use a sledge hammer for this and remember to always wear eye protection.

You need a plumber to seal off the pipes to your bathroom so you will still have water to the rest of your house. After demolition screw three quarter inch plywood which will make a good base. You will want to add safety bars to above the new tub so you will have to add additional framing in between the wall studs to fasten the safety bars to. Safety bars are always a good idea because the bathroom is the place where many accidents can occur so you want to make your new bathroom as safe as you possibly can.

Plumbing and Heating – What is Best?

AUTHOR: Tal Potishman
5.12.2009

Industrial professionals, plumbers and most other machinist professionals in the United Kingdom list copper as the metal of choice for most fabrications. Historians can date the use of copper as far back as ten millennia and believe that only gold and iron were used before copper was discovered. The natural colour of Copper is red, though over time its colour can shift into green.

Professionals in the plumbing and heating industries have been using copper for their pipes and for a number of the electrical devices that help operate the heating and plumbing systems the professionals create. While copper has been used commonly for almost a century, copper miners have recently begun raising the price of the metal out of fear that the world’s available copper supply will not meet the demand.

In the United Kingdom, copper tubing has proved to be the most reliable piping for water distribution and natural gas distribution. Copper is considered to be the “quality standard” in the heating and plumbing industries and its use is accepted in all areas of construction and building. In addition to its strength and durability, copper is thought to stifle bacterial growth and help contribute to the healthfulness of larger organisms that make use of the metal in their homes and offices.

Types Of Bathroom Vanities

AUTHOR: Johnny Hamm
30.11.2009

Storage is an essential element of any modern bathroom. People need easy-to-reach areas where they can keep all of their important daily personal items. Bathroom vanities are a great solution for storage as well as a way to bring a unique beauty to one of the most popular rooms in the house.

There are many different sizes and shapes of vanities to choose from. If you have a tiny bathroom, or a larger bathroom, there are bathroom vanities that will be perfect for your bathroom. When choosing your bathroom vanities, give some thought to the number of people who use the room and figure a minimum of space needed. If you plan a bit too much space you will feel a lot better than if you did not plan enough space.

Take the current style of the bathroom into consideration before purchasing a new vanity as well. Get one that will match the current dcor unless the entire bathroom is undergoing remodeling. Match wood tones and carvings with the rest of the room so it doesn’t look out of place. Take accurate measurements of the bathroom to ensure that the new vanity won’t be too large for the area.

Marketing Tips for Heating and Plumbing Companies

AUTHOR: Tal Potishman
30.11.2009

A steady flow of clients and customers is what every small business needs to remain competitive and survive in today’s market. This is especially true of small, independently owned heating and plumbing businesses that do not have a company brand to rely upon and only have a small number of staff to make sure that the business runs smoothly. To compete in a modern market and to bring in new clients and customers, the owners of small businesses need to learn how to stretch a smaller marketing budget.

These are five useful tips that should help the small and independent business owners stay competitive in the UK plumbing and heating market.

1. Marketing is more about the long term than the short term. It is not meant to be a fast solution to a large problem. It is best to put a company’s marketing message on everything that a potential (and repeat) customer could see: the logo should be painted on the company van, employees should wear uniforms, the business should have cards and letterhead printed with the company logo, etc. The more a marketing message gets seen, the more likely it is to attract new customers.

The American economic crisis has been making headlines all over the world for a few months but the US is not alone when it comes to financial difficulties. Various countries around the world have suffered severe economic meltdowns (Iceland and Ukraine just to name a few). The UK has also been having serious economic troubles as well, especially in the housing industry. There has been a twelve percent drop in the price of homes in the UK in the last twelve months. We ask – has the heating and plumbing industry been affected by this?

Initial evidence shows that the economic downturn hasn’t slowed down business for the plumbing and heating industry as much as it has for other industries. There are a few companies that have reported a drop in billable hours, but for the most part, business has remained steady. The real change has been in the kind of work that the heating and plumbing engineers are being hired to do.

The Health Benefits Of An Infrared Sauna

AUTHOR: Moe Kittaneh
29.11.2009

An infrared sauna has the same benefits as a traditional steam sauna, but uses 90% less power than a modern steam sauna. Infrared saunas use infrared heaters which give out infrared radiant heat that is absorbed by the body. Traditional steam saunas heat the body using hot air and steam.

Infrared radiation warms the skin without heating the air surrounding the person in the sauna room. As the infrared waves enter the body, the body’s temperature is raised. Steam saunas traditionally used heated rocks to heat the air inside the sauna room. Periodically, water would be poured onto the rocks; the water would evaporate into steam on contact with the extremely hot surface of the rocks. The body heat of the occupants would be raised by the heat of the air and the steam within the steam sauna room.

An infrared sauna is built along the same lines as a traditional steam sauna. Modern saunas are like a small room, lined with timber, with bench seating along the walls. They can be built to accommodate just one or two people, or a greater number, depending on where it is located. When people go into a sauna, they usually undress and wrap a towel around themselves for both modesty and to absorb the sweat which is produced by the high temperatures of the sauna room.

Efficient Central Heating Solutions for Your Home

AUTHOR: Tal Potishman
28.11.2009

Winter is almost here, are you prepared? It is important to ensure that your central heating system is up to par. An enjoyable holiday season is only possible if all parts of the system are operating properly. There are a few problems that can, and usually do, occur at the most inconvenient of times. Frost damage is a frequent occurrence that can harm both boilers and pipes.

In the past, the central heating system was set up so that the frost thermostat was placed near the boiler. It was responsible for turning on the boiler as the ambiance temperature dropped below the determined level and heat was needed. The thermostat also stopped the boiler when it detected the air temperature was at an appropriate level. Many times the thermostat detected heat leaking from the boiler or the pipes and immediately turned off the system to conserve energy.

A new development in insulation materials for central heating systems has made the frost thermostat’s job much more challenging. Modern boilers and pipes are much more insulated than their older counterparts. Energy conservation was the goal of this alteration; unfortunately the problem of overheating persists. The frost thermostat is no longer able to detect changes in temperature accurately. As such, overheating and energy waste continue to occur.

Smart Meters As A Way Of Cutting Energy In Homes

AUTHOR: Tal Potishman
27.11.2009

According to recent reports, the government is estimating that every household in the UK will have a smart meter installed by 2020. The smart meters are used by the suppliers to record customer’s gas and electricity use, and together with display device, they let consumers see how much energy they are using. This is greatly advantageous in the sense that homeowners do not need to stay at home for meter readings. It also stops people from getting over-estimated bills.

Some experts on energy and climate change have recognised that the meters we have in our homes were designed for different purposes, before the climate change. Nowadays consumers are increasingly recognising that they need to become smarter with their money.

Why is a smart meter good?

With a smart meter in their homes, consumers can monitor how much energy they are using and to accordingly make reductions in energy consumptions and carbon emissions. The government is claiming that this will be a huge project, one that will affect millions of homes and businesses.

The government has set out some proposals as a way of rolling out the smart meters across the UK. The first one allows the energy suppliers to take all the responsibilities, which include the supply and installation, and the data management.

What Is A Dual Shower Head?

AUTHOR: Joseph Anderton
27.11.2009

Do I want to take a shower or have a bath? Many people prefer to take a bath, especially after a long days work. There are those, however, that would rather just take a shower. And some people just do not have a tub, but rather a standing shower, so they don’t really have a choice. You you happen to be one of the people that love to take a shower, or even if you have to take a shower, then chances are you are looking for a way to make your shower even more enjoyable. Generally with a shower you are just standing there in one spot all the time; then perhaps you need to invest in dual shower heads.

Basically the function of dual shower heads is that they allow extra water to flow from that one pipe without any trouble. They are essentially two shower heads melded into one single shower head. They are much more powerful than normal shower heads, so they can feel almost like a spa and spray all of your worries away. If you couple your new dual shower head with a sliding door that is the total length of your floor to ceiling then you can enjoy the privilege of leaving the world behind you.

Changing Your Approach to Water Heating

AUTHOR: Tal Potishman
27.11.2009

Water heating is never much of a problem in homes where there is low water usage. A combi-boiler is usually satisfactory and if the home is big then a system boiler and a storage cylinder proves to be worthy. This type of system can work fine in smaller homes. The complications only arise when the house is bigger.

These are homes which have many bathrooms. Other types can include commercial buildings. Although these buildings may not be that large in numbers in comparison to the everyday housing market, they are still valuable in providing profit to the heating installer.

Many often decide to take a a simple upsizing approach and fit a bigger storage cylinder.

However, there are alternative options available to the consumer. These options will lead to better happiness for the consumer and the installer.

Continuous-flow water heating

This type of technology is called continuous-flow water heating. In previous years, many of us were used to cheap gas and we did not have to worry about expensive water heating as insulation standards were low. Therefore we did not even have to worry about taking care in design and the installation process.
